Synthesis converted a former industrial building into a destination cafe that contributes greatly to the growing arts and entertainment area in downtown Schenectady. The existing unadorned brick facade was removed and a new detailed facade with traditionally proportioned pilasters and inset panels was created using standard face brick, Italian tiles, limestone base and lintels, and a cast stone ornamental cornice. A modern glass canopy with vertical elongated lettering mounted above was added over the main entrance doors into the retail area. Beautifully crafted Italian casework was imported by the owners of the facility to showcase the pastries and products for sale.

Synthesis has been responsible for a number of award-winning and elegant design solutions in downtown Schenectady, including the recently expanded Municipal Parking Garage and the New York State Department of Transportation office building both to the north of Villa Italia Pasticceria.
