Synthesis, LLP offers services related to endangered species habitat identification
and quality analysis. The Karner Blue butterfly is a federally listed endangered
species and remains at risk of elimination due to development pressures within
New York State, notably Saratoga and Albany Counties. Synthesis’ staff
has the skills necessary to identify sensitive habitat to determine whether
it is inhabited by Karner Blues or the threatened Frosted Elfin.
Synthesis provides qualitative and quantitative analysis of species habitat
and the design of habitat management, restoration and creation plans. Long
term monitoring of existing habitat provides the landowner and regulatory
personnel with the data necessary to exercise effective management decisions.
Synthesis strives to deliver a balanced approach to habitat preservation,
management and restoration in the context of ongoing development. Appropriate
building and site layout standards that incorporate habitat protection and
corridor management techniques can assist developers and land managers in
achieving their goals and protect the long term survival of the species.
Michael D. Hale, RLA, Synthesis’ Director of Environmental Planning,
oversaw the design, construction and monitoring of a variety of Karner Blue
butterfly habitat areas while employed at his previous firm. He is currently
continuing to monitor the species in their natural habitat while working as
Director of Environmental Planning at Synthesis.
