Synthesis, working with project leader River Street Planning & Development, developed a comprehensive revitalization plan and implementation strategy for the Hudson River and Rondout Creek waterfront area in the City of Kingston. Synthesis designed a conceptual plan to revitalize the waterfront area, concentrating on appropriate uses for key parcels and significant nodes of redevelopment. The acreage at Kingston Point Park is envisioned to include an outdoor amphitheater with floating stage, restored dock for a dayliner, and reuse of a former oil storage site. A boardwalk along the river leads to a number of attractions, including a waterfront restaurant, environmental education center, and tugboat museum. A waterfront park is created near the hub of downtown activity with a skating rink/water feature and significant parking capacity.

A pedestrian bridge across Rondout Creek provides convenient access to an island that houses a hotel, aquarium/aviary, and facilities for crew teams to store their equipment and launch into the river. Nearby Block Park, an existing facility, is redesigned to provide convenient parking, improved boat launch facilities, and a reconfigured softball field. As a major access road for a significant portion of the waterfront park area, East Strand Street is reconfigured with landscape medians used to segregate areas for pedestrians, bicyclists, and the trolley line. Large street trees will define the edge of the street and provide a park-like setting for riverfront access.
