Peekskill Waterfront Master Plan

Synthesis was recently awarded a contract from the City of Peekskill, New York to develop a waterfront master plan along the Hudson River and for the preparation of construction documents for implementation. The master plan will focus on linking the waterfront to the central commercial core and adjoining multi-use trails as well as creating a sense of place for the community and visitors. It will also identify various shoreline stabilization techniques. Synthesis will lead a team that includes The Laberge Group, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. Consulting Engineers and Hartgen Archeological Associates.

The following principles will be the foundation of the plan:

  • Sense of Place - Creating a sense of place in which the waterfront becomes integrated within the community.
  • View Sheds - Preserving view sheds of the waterfront is important design consideration.
  • Access - Providing safe pedestrian, vehicular and boating access is important for a successful waterfront.
  • Linkages - Beautifully designed pedestrian network, linking the adjoining land uses enhances the waterfront.
  • Focal Point - A central focus helps to identify the area and to define its character. The focal point will relate to its environment and to the history of the area, thereby helping to build a "sense of place."
  • Shoreline Stabilization - Explore various alternatives to preserve and stabilize the shoreline.
  • Permitting - Secure permits required to implement project.
